OUR CHAPTER

Trust the Vision

Keep the Torch Burning

Love Panama

Tau Kappa Lambda’s history began on February 5, 2021, at 8:52 a.m. when Brother Brian Potier reached out to Brother Norman Parrish, lead for the chapter chartering efforts in Puerto Rico, indicating that he was interested in starting a chapter in the Republic of Panama. Brother Parrish immediately contacted Brother Dr. John H. Carter and Brother Robert L. Farmer III, members of the International Affairs Strategic Planning Committee. Both Brother Dr. Carter and Brother Farmer reached out to Brother Potier to schedule a meeting to outline how the IAC could assist in the chartering process and thus, the journey began.

The chartering group soon made our acquaintance with Brother Dr. Gregory Harris, (Florida District Director); Brother Al Bouie, (Florida Deputy District Director); Brother Cecil Howard, Esq., (Southern Regional Vice President); and Brother Torrez Wilson, (Southern Regional Fraternal Standards Committee Chair), and received their unwavering support. Brother Dr. Harris ensured that our promenade into Panama would have the strong reinforcement of the Florida Federation of Alpha Chapters every step of the way.

On May 3, 2023, Brother General President Dr. Willis Lonzer officially approved Tau Kappa Lambda as the 987th House of Alpha and the PHIRST chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. in Panama and in Central America.

We are humbly reminded of the words of William Ernest Henley:

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

Fuera de la noche que me cubre,
Negra como el abismo de polo a polo,
Agradezco a cualquier dios que pudiera existir
Por mi alma inconquistable.

This is only a portion of our progress and an introduction to our future. With love, care, and benevolence, Tau Kappa Lambda will continue to hold high the Light of Alpha on our beautiful isthmus of Panama where “men unacquainted enter, shake hands, exchange greetings, and depart friends.”
